We are hearing the Chariots of Fire tune on our television daily at the moment, therefore let’s learn a little more about this exquisite piece of music. Chariots of Fire is the theme tune to our 2012 Olympics. Vangelis is the Greek composer of this well known tune. “Evanghelos Odyssey Papathanassiou is the full name of the man known to many as the artist Vangelis. Although best known for his musical compositions Vangelis has not limited himself to the role of composer, as he also likes to paint and sculpt”. Vangelis started his musical career in a school band, which soon became a nation wide success. He soon started collaborating with other artists before going on to composing and producing his own work. “Vangelis creates the scores for a number of movies, music that by many is valued as some of his finest compositions ever. It started with “Chariots of Fire” and “Missing” (1981), quickly followed by “Blade Runner” (1982), “Antarctica” (1983) and “The Bounty” (1984)”. Im surprised to learn that our Olympic theme tune is not composed by an English person, but either way it’s a lovely piece of music and it’s incredibly uplifting. http://www.vangelismovements.com/vangelis.htm
