DM20 commissions
We are celebrating our 20th anniversary with 3 fantastic artistic commissions
We are celebrating our 20th anniversary with 3 fantastic artistic commissions
A beginning: It started with a tweet and 2 years later the alliance is still going strong…… I answered a call out from Drake Music in early 2013 for disabled musicians interested in cross-arts collaboration and never imagined the journey it would take me on
This #DM20 commission- a new composition written by deaf people for deaf people (and everyone else) – is the first time I have been responsible for the complete planning and delivery of a project of this scale.
The seed of the idea for my #DM20 commission came during a conversation in a music workshop with a girl who used cochlear implants.
Following the success of Drake Music Connect and Collaborate London’s music and video commissions In Motion and Ethnomusicality, we recently commissioned DM Associate Musician Gary Day to direct a reinterpretion/re-imagination of an existing song/piece of music, working with a small group of disabled musicians using assistive music technology (AMT).
I was recently commissioned by Drake Music’s ‘Connect and Collaborate’ strand (C&C) to reinterpret an existing piece of music, working with 3 experienced disabled musicians to compose and record the new piece over 3 sessions, using assistive music technology (AMT).
This Monday will see the beginning of a Drake Music Connect and Collaborate Music Commission.
Between November 2013 and February 2014, Drake Music – Connect & Collaborate London provided mentoring and technical support for Carlo Keshishian and Phil Baird, artists/musicians from Network Arts Lewisham to facilitate their Music and Animation Project.
I wish to thank all those involved in contributing to a very interesting and entertaining afternoon at the BFI Southbank on Monday 10th March.
