Meet our 2024 Emergent Artists!

Updates

We’re so excited to introduce to you our selected 2024 Emergent Artists!

Just a little recap, our Emergent Artist programme is a part of the Drake Music Collective (DMC), a professional development programme for Deaf and/or Disabled musicians. The five selected artists have the opportunity to make new music and develop their creative skills and gain a bursary of £1000.

So let’s get to know more about our fantastic new artists…

Bee Jarvis (she/her)

A smiling mixed-race woman is standing in a brightly lit setting. She has light blonde, braided hair styled in a high bun with loose strands cascading down. She is wearing a sparkling, beaded black top with intricate gold detailing and sheer sleeves, paired with a flowing black skirt.

Bee Jarvis is a Plymouth-based Singer, Musical Director, Writer, and Intersectional Arts Advocate. She started out writing musicals recently, and had her first showing “All In” premiered at Theatre Royal Plymouth in 2024, and now she’s excited to continue her writing with a fusion of Jazz and Alternative alongside light and immersive performance. Bee dedicates her artistry to championing unheard voices, discovering untold stories, and finding the magic in every moment.

The Shouting Mute (he/him)

The Shouting Mute, AKA Dave Young, is a performance poet, musician and writer; a communication aid user pushing the boundaries of eye gaze and communication tech. He has written and performed on stage for theatre since 2012 and previous collaborations include Diverse City, Graeae, Ramps on the Moon and with his own inclusive theatre and media company ‘The Shouting Mute’; which is the first AAC led company of its kind.

Autumn 2024 birthed a new show called ‘Meltdown’ whereby Dave experimented with a fusion of music, sound design and performance poetry. The production saw the emergence of gig theatre from modalities such as live music, soundbeam, switches and various apps and software’s across Dave’s devices, which resulted in original poetic material overlapped with electronic beats and bass.

Dave considers himself an activist in the promotion of inclusive practices. He believes that through the arts everyone can have a voice to recount their stories and experiences in the world. Dave hopes that others see him as a role model whereby his positive actions and character help to create a more inclusive culture in the future.

Post Viral (he/him)

Post Viral mixing in his home studio. His headphones include an air-purifier that covers the bottom half of his face.

Post Viral, the musical alias of DJ and producer Jonah Weisz, crafts uplifting blends of Disco and House music. His tracks evoke the rapture of the dancefloor, and reflect the elation and resilience music ignites within him. In 2020, Jonah’s life changed forever after contracting Long Covid, a Post-Acute Infection Syndrome (PAIS) characterised by severe cognitive and physical fatigue. At home for long stretches, he began DJing in his bedroom to recreate the joyful, inclusive environments that he first fell in love with. Jonah now performs as Post Viral to raise awareness of PAIS, complementing his advocacy work with #ThereForME and the Liberal Democrat Disability Association committee.

Dani Osoba (she/her)

Dani is a singer-songwriter and community artist from Kent, writing music that is introspective and mellow. Having grown up in a household with eclectic musical tastes, Dani draws from influences of folk, jazz and neo-soul brought together by just her voice and guitar; her songs are delicate and beautiful in their spaciousness. Telling stories – and inviting others to do the same – is at the core of her craft.
