UK-based Florence Anna Maunders is a multi-international award-winning composer, performer, conductor and educator. She studied at the RNCM in Manchester, before taking a long break from writing music, instead focusing on teaching, performing and electronic music production. In 2018 she made a dramatic return to composition, completed a masters degree in Birmingham and is about to start her PhD. Since returning to writing music, she’s enjoyed significant successes in the UK, the USA, Europe and across the rest of the world.
About ‘Harbingers of Change – Eight of Cups’
This piece is directly inspired by the imagery and classical interpretations of certain cards in a tarot deck. Traditionally, there are a number of cards which speak about the concept of change, whether warning of change to come, signalling a dramatic transformation, or indicating that change is required for growth and development. In this set of instrumental pieces, these concepts are explored directly through the musical processes – ideas are stated, developed, improvised, transformed and renewed – nothing stays the same. Even in repeated musical patterns there is still a constant process of change.
