In the summer of 2023, we launched an open call for three £1,000 seed funding grants to support the creation of new accessible musical instruments. We received a wide range of applications, from solo innovators and collaborative teams to musicians, instrument makers, and developers – Disabled and Non-Disabled. After careful review, we selected projects that introduced creative approaches to meeting specific accessibility requirements, announcing the grantees in September 2023.
Now, one year on, we’re very pleased to share the results of this first round. Over the next three weeks, we’ll feature the work of Lee Holder, Nicola Woodham, and zen olenski in a series of blog posts written by themselves, each exploring the journey of their projects. We hope you enjoy following along with the progress and stories behind these new accessible instruments!
