As part of our DMLab research and development work we create and prototype new forms of accessible musical instrument.
These can be beautiful bespoke instruments like the Kellycaster guitar designed for John Kelly, or they can be quick DIY projects aimed at being used in group music-making sessions.
The light and buzz box definitely falls into the latter category being made quickly for the classroom using tupperware and a few other components to make an instrument which buzzes, lights and makes sound when touched.
This helps to reinforce cause-and-effect with young learners and can give anyone a way into making sounds in a group.
