As part of Megan Steinberg’s DEBUT ALBUM: ami études, we are looking for 1 Accessible Musical Instrument performer to take part in creating the album. This will involve working with Megan to create a new piece for your instrument, looking at its unique qualities and sounds.
This project is putting accessibility at the start of the creative process. You will be invited to discuss your access requirements and explore them in a creative way, it is an opportunity to develop a new piece specifically for your instrument and your way of playing.
An Accessible Musical Instrument is an instrument which has been designed or repurposed with accessibility in mind, and we are looking for performers of AMIs who identify as D/deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent.

Fee: £1,000 (rehearsals, performance, expenses)
Location: Manchester and online
Accessibility: there is a separate budget for accessibility, and support provided by Drake Music to meet any requirements
Dates:
Rehearsals: to be discussed and arranged, between October & December 2023.
Performance & recording: early February 2024
Deadline for applications: 1 September 2023
Selection process:
Artists will be chosen based on suitability of instrument and style for the album. With your permission, your contact details will be kept in order to forward future opportunities.
Megan’s compositional style involves:
Experimentation, Sound Art, Improvisation, Text Scores, Graphic Scores, Artificial Intelligence
There is no requirement for a specific way of reading or interpreting music, the piece will develop around every individual’s needs and preferences for communicating and performing music. There may be multiple forms of a score or instructions specific to each player.
We would like to keep in touch with every artist who expresses their interest as there will be more pieces and collaboration opportunities as part of the PhD project with Drake Music.
