Drake Music, in partnership with Sound and Music, are hosting a cross-genre digital showcase day of new music from emerging Disabled musicians.
Making space within the industry for Disabled composers and creators, new voices and sounds that need to be heard.
This is the live launch for our 2019/20 Emergent: A Music Legacy commissions, funded by HMUK to support the artistic development of early-career Disabled musicians.

Listening Party and ‘In Conversation With…’
Remember what it felt like to come across a great new track at a gig? Or catch your new favourite artist at a festival? Get on the guest list for an exclusive listening party hosted by Drake Music and Sound and Music, as we premiere three brand new commissions by emerging Disabled music makers.
The Dyr Sister, Remi Fox-Novák and Robbie Ashworth have created exciting new alt-folk, experimental techno, and contemporary classical music. Each has collaborated with a film-maker or visual artist on bold moving image to accompany their new tracks and live performances.
Hosted on Zoom by acclaimed live artist Gareth Cutter (Drake Music), the collective listening experience will be followed by a Q and A – a conversation between artists which we’re invited to.
This event will have Closed Captions and will be relaxed.
2pm | Zoom
Music Industry Round Table
Join us for a round table discussion about digital accessibility and representation in the music industry.
How accessible is the creative sector? When things go digital who is represented? Who is left out?
Hear from artists and industry insiders about their experiences, before we open the discussion up to the virtual floor, so you can ask the questions and be part of the debate.
This event is for artists, musicians, industry, promoters, labels, venues and anyone who is interested in building a new, more inclusive, music sector.
We want to make space for under-represented voices. We want to shake things up. Come along and get involved.
The panel will include Emily Jones (Sage Gateshead), Dike Okoh (Musician / Drake Music), Delia Barker (Roundhouse), Rich Legate (Attitude is Everything) and Angharad Cooper (Sound and Music). The session will be hosted and facilitated by Jodi-Alissa Bickerton, Creative Learning Director at Graeae and Drake Music board member.
This is a relaxed event and will have Closed Captions.
4pm | Social Media
After our exclusive listening party, we are holding Youtube and Facebook premieres for each commission. Watch live, share your thoughts and reactions and help spread the word.
We will be sharing insights, articles and videos from our 3 emerging musicians so you can find out a bit more about the people behind the music – their process, the ideas they are working with and more.
8.05pm | Facebook Live
Lockdown Livestream with Remi Fox-Novák
The current pandemic might mean we can’t get together to experience live music, but we don’t have to miss out entirely. Join us after the NHS Clap for some live music on Facebook.
You are invited to turn the lights down low and the sound up high for Remi Fox-Novák’s live performance of arty party music, direct from his living room to yours.
Both Zoom events will have Closed Captions. We have created some ‘What to expect’ information so you can familiarise yourself with the events before they happen.
We aim to make each event a ‘Relaxed’ performance/discussion. This has different meaning in digital spaces, but we use it to indicate that we welcome people to participate in a way which is comfortable to them (camera on/off, free to drop in/out etc) and that we will try to keep the pace of the event steady.
The events will try to be as accessible as possible, though we acknowledge this will be challenging with the technology and resources available. We aim to set high standards for access, but we’re definitely not perfect and always want to improve. Please communicate with us about your access requirements, however you define access, so we can make it as inclusive as possible.
