A co-ordinated approach – working with music hubs in the East Region
Between October 2014 and July 2015 we worked with all 11 music hubs in the East Region on a strategic, co-ordinated and targeted SEN/D project – Music Connections East
There is a need for SEN/D expertise in music hubs across England, so we worked with staff to provide both high-level strategic insights and hands-on practical delivery of education projects and training.
In this consultancy project with the East Region music hubs we:
- identified and spotlighted areas of high quality SEN/D music provision in special schools across the region
- informed how the 11 music hubs plan for the delivery of SEN/D music provision on their next 3 year business plan.
The underlying idea is that by identifying good practice, understanding what this means and how to describe and share it, the music hubs will be better equipped to encourage and grow this across the region.
The work was co-ordinated and supported by the two Bridge Organisations in the East – The Royal Opera House and Norwich and Norfolk Festival. They have responsibility at strategic level to facilitate access for all children and young people to quality arts and culture.
The Drake Music team working on this project includes our Associate National Manager for Training and Consultancy, an expert SEN/D Music delivery consultant, practitioners and a project manager. We are bringing a multi-skilled, multi-layered, efficient approach to the project through this diverse team.
Our aim was to build a comprehensive picture of best practice in special schools across the region and then to use this to inform and underpin strategic planning for the next three years to produce a cohesive, efficient approach to improving musical inclusion.
