DM Education is a Drake Music initiative for better access to accreditation and formal assessment in music. We are delighted to announce that DM Education has been granted funding by Youth Music to run three inter-linked projects from September 2012 to March 2014. These projects will:
- Roll out DM Education’s OCNSWR accredited Introduction to Music course to three SEN secondary schools in London, Bristol and Liverpool. Drake Music associates will co-deliver the course alongside teachers to create regional centres of excellence for this fully accessible course that can be accredited at Entry 3, Level 1 & Level 2.
- Deliver Early Years music sessions and train teachers in line with the Sounds of Intent framework at SEN primary schools in the North West, North East, South West and London. ‘Sounds of Intent’ promotes the musical development of children and young people with complex needs (e.g. learning difficulties ranging from PMLD to SLD to autism).
- ‘Spotlight’ and share examples of effective practice in accessible music education throughout the country. Through the DM Education web pages, the Youth Music Network and other online platforms we will be focussing in particular on the power of video to demonstrate what effective practice looks and sounds like.
DM Education will be working with a range of partners to deliver these projects around the country, including schools and music hubs. Sounds of Intent delivery in the North East will be carried out by our friends in the Accessible Learning team at The Sage Gateshead.
