Spotlight on SEN/Disabled Music Education

Updates

blog-banner-spotlight-520x293Drake Music is shining a spotlight on SEN/Disabled music education! Throughout 2013 we’ll be searching the country for inspiring and interesting examples of SEND music teaching that we can shout about and share online. We want to:

Help teachers & music educators inspire and inform each other

Raise awareness and expectations of what SEN/Disabled young people can achieve in music

In particular, we’re keen to showcase video examples of what effective SEND music education actually looks and sounds like. Short video clips filmed on mobile phones, video cameras or iPads can communicate so much more than the written word or photographs alone. These examples can then be shared online through the DM Education web pages and the Youth Music Network to inspire and inform others.

Please get involved and help to shine a spotlight on inspiring examples of SEND music teaching!

Contact us if you have an example to share, or if you’d like to nominate someone you know. Email dmed@drakemusic.org or tweet us on @Drake_Music using #dmspot

We can also travel to document and learn about interesting examples of SEN/Disabled music education, as well as offering training in how to film, edit and share video footage of your music sessions.

“There are far too many teachers wasting valuable time reinventing the wheel. To improve teaching and learning in SEND music education, there needs to be a way in which ideas, resources and lessons can be shared between schools and organisations…”  SEND music teacher, Stratford Upon Avon.

This DM Education Spotlighting initiative is funded by Youth Music
