Commission Winner – Louis Walkden

Updates

We are pleased to announce the final winner of our first round of Emergent commissions.

Emergent: A Music Legacy is our project funded by Help Musicians UK to give emerging Disabled musicians opportunities to write new work, train as music leaders and build their profile.

Our South East Commission has been awarded to Louis Walkden, a talented singer & songwriter and performer currently working with Carousel in Brighton.

Louis is interested in exploring the idea of recycling and, in particular, a song themed around championing charity shops.

Digital sampling and sound manipulation will be used throughout the creation of the piece and he plans to visit local charity shops and create sound samples from a variety of non-traditional sound sources such as household items.

Louis said:  I am excited about being the shop-keeper for this commission. It’s going to be about the environment. I like to recycle in the big bin, I put plastic bottles there. We are going to look at charity shops to make music. I like music magpie!

While we wait to hear his new creation, why not enjoy one he made earlier…
