The awards were presented on 22 February by Classic FM’s Anne-Marie Minhall at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel, Mayfair.

Our partnership with Drake Music Scotland and MEC won Best SEN/D Resource for the Short Guide to Accessible Music Education.

Alex Stevens, editor of Music Teacher magazine and chair of the awards judging panel, said: ‘Year by year, brilliant teachers and educators work tirelessly to bring the life-enhancing opportunity of learning music to children, young people and adults in all walks of life. Music education may find itself under pressure, but it is reassuring to see that the sector is still coming up with inspiring ideas, useful initiatives and, of course, fantastic teaching.’

The Short Guide was compiled by Emma Lines, Drake Music Scotland and Jonathan Westrup, Drake Music, with the support of the Music Education Council ASN/SEND Working Group).

It was first launched a year ago at the Music & Drama Education Expo in 2017 and has since been updated with lots of additional links and information for anyone interested in inclusive music education.

Carien Meijer, Chief Executive of Drake Music commented:

“We are delighted that Jonathan and Emma’s hard work has paid off and that this free, inclusive, sector-wide resource has been recognised and given this prestigious award.

It was a pleasure to be nominated in a really strong category, so to go on to win the award was the icing on the cake.”

The Guide is free to download, for the benefit of the whole sector.
