Last week we our had our first induction day for our new batch of Emergent trainees at our Drake Music office in London.
Emergent: A Music Legacy is Drake Music’s 3 year programme, funded by Help Musicians UK and the Wingate Foundation.
Now in its third and final year, the trainee programme provides Disabled artists the opportunity to develop their skills of music facilitation and teaching, through paid trainee roles within Drake Music’s Learning and Participation programmes.
This year we’re working with 6 musicians across the South East and North West of England and last week we were lucky enough to get (almost all) our London based trainees together for an induction day.
The day was a chance for everyone to meet, share their artistic practices and what they wish to gain and develop from the programme, and of course go through the ins and outs!
We look forward seeing them start their placements in a couple of months working in schools, with music hubs and in care settings. Plus, we are excited to meet our North West based trainees in a couple of weeks!
We are also happy to be working with visually impaired trainees this year, thanks to funding from the Greater London Fund for the Blind.
Next stop is Manchester!
