Arts Award webinar – Using Arts Award to accredit music for disabled young people

On March 1st this year, Drake Music and Trinity College London hosted a one hour webinar on ‘Using Arts Award to accredit music for disabled young people’ as part of our series of training and discussion webinars aimed at music educators as part of Think2020.

The webinar featured presentations by Ruth Jones (Music Education Hubs Associate, Trinity College London) and Jonathan Westrup (Music Education Manager, Drake Music)

Ruth gave an overview of Arts Award including the practicalities of running the course with a music focus at different levels.

A music leader looks intently at a young musician who is playing sounds using a big switchRuth also talked about her personal journey in developing this popular accredited course.

Jonathan took a general look at music and accreditation opportunities for disabled people in the UK. He also discussed the importance of establishing ‘musical identity’ for disabled young people.

After the presentations we took questions from the audience who were spread out across the UK.
