Trinity College Music Certificate Exams

Trinity College Music Certificate Exams assess a musican’s performance on a musical instrument.  Music Certifcate Exams are more flexible and adaptable than Trinity’s Music Grade Exams, consisting of a performance of pieces without the assessment of Technical Work or Supporting Tests and permitting students to choose their own repertoire.

Music Certificate Exams are available for the majority of instruments at 3 levels:

  1. Foundation Certificate – approximately equivalent to Grade 3
  2. Intermediate Certificate – approximately equivalent to Grade 5
  3. Advanced Certificate – approximately equivalent to Grade 8

In 2004, disabled musician Rhona Smith (working with Drake Music Scotland) achieved a Trinity Guildhall Music Certificate using E-Scape Assistive Music Technology.

Trinity’s Music Certificate Exams are similar in many ways to ABRSM’s Performance Assessment.
