Chief Executive Officer

£70-77k pro rata (initially 4 days per week, increasing to full time)

Drake Music is a national arts charity working across the UK, with our Head Office in London. We are a Disabled-led organisation and work with Disabled people of all ages, from school children having their first instrumental lessons to professional Disabled musicians. We have been pioneering the use of accessible music technology for over 20 years, and in that time we have developed lots of imaginative methods of teaching, learning, writing and playing music.

Just as non-Disabled people can make music in many ways, we want the same for Disabled people – because we believe that making music is a social justice issue. We are steadily working towards a world where Disabled people have the same range of opportunities, instruments and encouragement as non-Disabled people, and where Disabled and non-Disabled musicians work together as collaborators and equals. We have a simple aim: we want more people to be able to make music!

Today, we are the leading national organisation working in music, disability and technology. We are specialists in breaking down disabling barriers to making music, and we are motivated by our firm belief that everyone can fulfil their creative and musical potential, given the right opportunities. We are proud to be supported by Arts Council England (who have selected us as a National Portfolio Organisation) and Youth Music.

Our new Chief Executive will join a flourishing, creative and passionate organisation, with big ambitions to support disabled musicians and composers as they discover, grow and excel in their chosen practice. You’ll be an active exponent of the social model of disability, and will have a profound grasp of the value of the arts as a route to self-expression, inclusion and sheer joy. You’ll bring a broad repertoire of leadership knowledge and experience, including budgets, strategy, advocacy, and (sometimes hands-on) day-to-day management of a small, expert and dedicated team. Your commitment to making the arts accessible for all, and a strong track record of making this happen, will set you apart. Practical understanding of our funding model – including the expectations of an NPO, and good knowledge of trusts and foundations – would be a definite asset.
