Tailored Training Courses
We also offer tailored training covering many aspects of Music, Disability and Assistive Music Technology. For us, it’s not just the how that’s important; it’s also the why, what and when - so contact us to discuss your requirements: info@drakemusic.org. Meanwhile, here are examples of some of the areas we cover:
Lo-tech Assistive Music Technology. Use what you’ve got already and what you can get for free! It’s often assumed that accessible music making using technology requires expensive and complicated equipment. Not true! There’s a lot of musical potential in accessible software and hardware that’s already widely used in schools for activities other than music, such as Clicker 5 or Microsoft Powerpoint, as well as free or cheap music software that’s available to download from the Internet. Contact us to find out how we can help you to make music more accessible using this kind of equipment.
Hi-tech Assistive Music Technology
Developments in Music Technology and other Assistive Technologies continue to break down disabling barriers while pushing back the boundaries of what is possible creatively. We can offer tailored training in commercially available assistive hardware such as Soundbeam, MIDI Creator and SmartNav, as well as assistive software such as The Grid 2.
Inclusive music making, assessment & accreditation in the classroom
In our experience, many music teachers would like extra support and advice on how to enable SEN/disabled pupils to more actively participate and achieve in music lessons. As part of DM Education, we are creating resources, strategies and schemes of work designed to more effectively integrate SEN/Disabled pupils into the music curriculum, particularly at KS3/4. For example, we have created Introduction to Music - a new, accessible music course accredited by OCNSWR at Entry level, Level 1, Level 2. The course combines practical performing and composing activities with with learning & assessment resources for Clicker 5 software. We are also currently piloting accessible resources for BTEC Music & Performing Arts.
We can offer tailored training for music educators who would like to increase access to assessment and accreditation within the music curriculum by disabled pupils, covering issues such as:
* Common barriers to full participation faced by disabled pupils in the classroom
* Practical approaches to overcoming disabling barriers, most of which are good practice for any student
* Accreditation opportunities for SEN/disabled pupils and how to support them
* Training to support the delivery of Drake Music's Introduction to Music course
