RAMP It Up!
RAMP it Up! Real Accessible Musical Participation for disabled children and young people
Through a blend of delivery by Drake Music associates and training for teachers, RAMP It Up! aims to increase opportunities for disabled children and young people to actively participate in making music in schools. Projects focus on using each school's own equipment and fully involving staff in delivering music sessions, to try and ensure a lasting legacy. Activities include playing, performing, recording and learning about music.
We are always keen to base our music projects on relevant curriculum themes or topics, so that the pupil's involvement in music making links to and enhances their understanding of other subject areas. This is especially useful for pupils who may be finding it difficult to engage with certain topics, but for whom music provides a motivating 'way in'.
Our focus is on young people’s active participation in music making. We are looking to increase and improve the use of Assistive Technology by disabled pupils, especially those who face physically disabling barriers. Music is a great motivator for many pupils and so these benefits can reach far beyond music into improved communication (through the use of AAC for example) and better participation and achievement in other curriculum subjects. Much of the Assistive Technology that can enable better access to music also enables better access to the rest of the curriculum and to communication in general (e.g. Clicker 5 software, Voice Output Communication Aids etc.)
RAMP It Up! is currently delivered in schools across London/ South East, the North West and South West. If you are based outside these areas, we may still be able to work with you.
