DMIT – Distant Interiors

Showcase

In January 2011 we put out an international call for proposals seeking two artists with personal experience of disability to collaborate with Drake Music Artist/Curator in Residence, Melanie Clifford, on a new online commission entitled Drake Music In Translation. The brief, initially developed by Melanie, was to investigate translation and interpretation via remote collaboration.

We received many brilliant proposals, and selected 2 artists to take part: Ailís Ní Ríain and Rebecca Key.

Over 2 months Ailís, Rebecca & Melanie communicated via email, file-sharing and a multi-author blog – thinking together about place and transience in relation to the commission themes.

Their work can be followed on the DMIT blog.

Towards the end of the working period, the artists produced Distant Interiors, a music and moving image piece for online exhibition.

Melanie Clifford’s residency was supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Furtherfield.
