Emergent: A Music Legacy

Three musicians play traditional instruments on stage

Emergent: A Music Legacy is Drake Music’s new 3 year programme, funded by Help Musicians UK, to provide opportunities, support and greater profile to advance the next generation of disabled musicians in the pursuit of excellence in their music careers.

The project has two strands; developing new work by Disabled musicians and training new Disabled music leaders.

The aim of this exciting 3 year programme is to redress the imbalance within the music sector for Disabled musicians.

Focusing on creative and portfolio career development, Drake Music will also support the musicians to attend sector-led seminars and conferences, creating opportunities for networking, self-promotion and awareness raising.

‘Emergent: Music Legacy Commissions’ will see 3 new works commissioned by early career Disabled musicians per year.

These will be awarded across the country in partnership with leading music venues and will cover a range of musical styles.

Currently we have two paid commission opportunities available:

‘Emergent: Music Legacy Trainees’ will provide paid ‘on the job’ training opportunities for six emerging Disabled musicians per year.

These will be rolled out across the country and will offer training and mentoring from established music leaders, including the use of tech in music.

We currently have the following paid training opportunities available:

Daryl Beeton, Drake Music’s National Manager, Arts and Collaborations commented:

Not only will it grow and strengthen Drake Music’s workforce, it will also develop the sector.

But most importantly, thanks to Help the Musicians UK, Emergent: A Music Legacy will provide new creative and professional avenues for new and emerging Disabled musicians to shape their own music career.”
