Current issues in music education: Reflections from Drake Music
Drake Music had a strong presence at the Music Education Expo held in London on March 20/21 with no less than six of our Associate Musicians either attending sessions or delivering Teachmeets and presentations. The needs and musical interests of SEN/ Disabled people have historically never been so firmly on the music education agenda and Drake Music's active participation in a range of debates and seminars demonstrates our commitment to keeping the spotlight shining on SEND and music.
Four of our Associate musicians who attended the Expo publish blogs today which reflect upon the sessions and debates they attended:
The Music Education Expo was a different kind of music conference experience says DM London Associate Gary Day.
The value of the CME needs to be communicated more clearly to the profession and disability mentioned more specifically says DM North East Associate Michael Dollan.
Phoebe Osborne (DM London Associate) agrees with elements of Pro Corda's approaches to SEND and music but longs for some music technology.
DM NW Associate Gemma Nash investigates resources for SEND music teaching – and listens to Ed Vaizey – at the Music Education Expo 2013.
We look forward to hearing colleagues' opinions and views on the topics and debates raised here.
